Enjoy Freshly Roasted Coffee....Enjoy the freshly roasted taste of coffee toasted right on your barbeque, campfire or fire place. These popcorn poppers double as barbeque coffee roasters. To roast your green beans in this manner you put a cup (6 oz) of beans in, close the lid and place it on your barbeque grate at medium heat if you have a gas grill. For charcoal grills put the barbeque coffee roaster (popcorn popper) on your grate when the coals are glowing 4 to 6 inches under the grate. To conserve heat, for an even roast, close the grill cover so it almost touches the roaster handle. You need to give the coffee roaster a shake every 5 to 10 seconds until the coffee beans start to pop. The first crack signals that the coffee beans are nearing completion. This will take approximately 7 to 15 minutes depending on your grill temperature. When the coffee starts popping inspect your roast. You can remove chaff from the beans by blowing directly on them while agitating the coffee roaster. Roasted coffee can be from medium brown to almost black depending on the bean and how you like your coffee brewed. You can compare your roasted beans to commercially roasted beans if you've not roasted before. The beans will roast a little more after removing from the grate so take that into consideration. Let the coffee cool in the roaster for an half hour or so, and pack it into a container. There is no refrigeration necessary and it will be at its prime for the next four days.On an historical note: we observed open fire coffee roasters similar to these at Old Fort William, a recreated fur trading post of the 1800's. During the height of the fur trade rich officials gathered for the fur rendezvous, and money being no object, were served the best of food and drink, including fresh roasted coffee just as you can with these Popcorn Popper Roasters.
